Who I Am

Welcome to my professional website! My name is Brock, and I have dedicated my adult life to understanding romantic relationships, parent-child interactions, and the best ways to support family systems. As a therapist, researcher, and teacher specializing in family therapy, I recognize how vital a supportive family environment is for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I embrace a broad definition of 'family,' which includes anyone we choose to hold close and rely on—whether they are part of our lives now, in the past, or in the future. Our closest relationships shape our identities, and I'm here to support any such connection through services like couples therapy, discernment counseling, and first responder therapy, as well as rural therapy for those in underserved areas.

What I Do

Therapy

I am a marriage and family therapist and a candidate for licensure in Colorado (MFTC.0014645). I have been actively practicing since 2022 and completed my master's degree in Human Development & Family Studies, specializing in Marriage & Family Therapy, in 2024. I primarily work with adolescents and adults through individual, couple, or family therapy sessions.

Clinically, I specialize in:

- Couples therapy for couples navigating potential divorce or separation through discernment counseling.

- First responder therapy for individuals in high-stress careers, such as first responders and healthcare workers, along with their families.

- Rural therapy to support individuals from rural, agricultural, or farming families.

- Therapy to assist people in life transitions, including transitions to college, career, parenting, and co-parenting.

Research

I came to the field of marriage and family therapy after serving as a psychology research assistant and discovering my passion for this area. My research training and career have focused on understanding and supporting healthy family dynamics. Alongside collaborators and skilled mentors, I have:

- Conducted research exploring the link between family functioning and the physical health of children and adults.

- Published articles on mental health topics, such as the connection between mental health symptoms and treatment in mindfulness-based interventions.

- Analyzed how factors in romantic relationships may impact biological aging.

- Written grants to investigate the interplay between work/education stress and romantic relationship development in emerging adults.

- Examined patterns of trauma exposure and mental health impacts experienced by children in the juvenile justice and child welfare/foster systems.

I expect to complete a PhD in Applied Developmental Science in 2026, which will enable me to continue this important work long-term.

Teaching

One of my favorite aspects of my career is teaching university undergraduate and graduate students who aspire to work in helping professions such as therapy, healthcare, and education. I have taught classes on various topics, including:

- Lifespan human development

- Family therapy theory

- Marriage & family therapy practice

- Research methods
